First Generation/Indigenous Student Bursary | St. Clair College

The Ontario First Generation Bursary is an award provided to Ontario students with financial need who are the first in their family to attend postsecondary education.

The Indigenous Student Bursary is an award provided to Indigenous students with financial need who are attending postsecondary programs and/or training programs at either Ontario publicly-assisted colleges and universities or approved Indigenous postsecondary education and training institutions.

Eligibility Criteria for First Generation Bursary:

  • you must be a student whose parents did not attend any post-secondary studies
  • you must meet the Canadian citizenship requirements
  • you must meet the Ontario residency requirements
  • you must be enrolled in the current academic year of study
  • you must be enrolled in your first degree, diploma or certificate program
  • you must have a financial need that exceeds the value of the bursary (amount to be determined)
  • you must complete the student declaration of ‘first generation’ status
  • you must submit a letter from your parent(s) confirming their educational background
  • you must complete the First Generation Application, including the budget

Eligibility Criteria for Indigenous Student Bursary:

  • you must self-identify as having Indigenous identity and/or heritage
  • you must meet the Canadian citizenship requirements
  • you must meet the Ontario residency requirements
  • you must be enrolled in the current academic year of study
  • you must have a financial need that exceeds the value of the bursary (amount to be determined)
  • you must complete the Indigenous student declaration of Indigenous student status
  • you must complete the Indigenous Student Bursary Application, including the budget

Please ensure your First Generation & Indigenous Student Bursary submission includes the following:

  • The completed Application
  • For First Generation Bursary: proof of citizenship status & parental declaration/letter
  • For Indigenous Student Bursary: proof of status
  • The budget form
  • Signed Declaration of Status
  • Signed Collection of Data

Applications must be returned to the Financial Aid Offices at either St. Clair College's Main Windsor Campus or Thames Campus.

IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

Applicants to the Ontario First Generation Bursary & the Indigenous Student Bursary must demonstrate a financial need that exceeds the value of each eligible bursary. If your financial need is of lesser value, you will be ineligible for this bursary. Please be advised you will be required to provide proof of your resources and expenses before any payments of the bursary are released. Do not send any supporting documentation at this time but please copy the attached Budget form for your records and prepare to provide your documentation should you be selected as one of the successful applicants. The inability to provide documentation to support your assessment will result in non-payment of the bursary.
