This is an introductory course in Pharmacology and Safety Systems for Office Administration - Health Services students. The student will learn commonly used medications and their actions and basic side effects. Specific practical knowledge of the role of local pharmacy facilities regarding public interaction and education, narcotic abuse, processing scripts from doctors and the unique relationship with doctors' administrative personnel will be discussed. In addition, students will gain an understanding of safety systems commonly used in health settings. Students will learn about the systems designed to help workers understand and exercise their legal right to know about hazardous materials in the workplace. Students will also be introduced to the specific characteristics of biological hazards and the circumstances where worker exposure can occur.
