In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of customs legislation, regulations and enforcement procedures. It is designed to give students a general introduction to various acts of legislation that govern customs regulations and policies when determining the admissibility of persons, goods and conveyances into Canada. They will learn, in detail, specific sections of the Customs Act and Criminal Code that give customs officers' various authorities and powers of arrest and detention. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms will be examined in detail in reference to the importance of establishing reasonable grounds in arrest, detention, examination, personal search and seizure procedures.
