Learning Strategist
What is a Learning Strategist?
A Learning Strategist is a learning support professional who works with students to identify learning preferences, strengths and challenges to develop personalized strategies. Whether tackling specific academic issues or simply wanting to improve academic performance, a Learning Strategist assists students to explore ways to work more effectively.
The Role of the Learning Strategist
The role of the Learning Strategist is to provide one-on-one learning support to students who may require assistance in the areas of organization, study skills, note-taking skills and motivation. Meeting with the Learning Strategist provides the student with an opportunity to discuss their academic goals and steps that can be taken to achieve these goals. Discussions may explore what study habits and skills may have worked in the past and those that have been ineffective. Meaningful exchanges may provide a different approach to studying or an introduction to a new technique that works better for the individual.
Improvement in academic performance may include a discussion of one or more of the following areas:
- Time Management
- Organization
- Procrastination
- Study Skills
- Note Taking
- Test Taking
- Test and Exam Preparation
- Reading and Using a Textbook Effectively
