This course will introduce the student to the field of diagnostic medical sonography with an overview of professional responsibilities, conduct and judgment while adhering to relevant legislation and standards of practice. The student will also become familiarized with sonographic equipment, instrumentation and basic procedures while preserving an environment of workplace health and safety. Students will have an opportunity to practice basic sonographic scanning techniquespractices in the lab component of this course. The Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals National Competency Profile and entry to practice competencies required of the Generalist Sonographer will also be reviewed.
