This course is designed to familiarize the student with refrigeration compression systems and equipment used in industry for food processing and storage, air conditioning, instrumentation and production requiring refrigeration. The CSA B52 Mechanical Refrigeration Code and its importance in refrigeration is reviewed. Students will be able to perform calculations in refrigeration compressors and systems. Lithium Bromide Absorption refrigeration systems and ammonia types are studied. The operation and maintenance of compression and absorption systems and a comparison of both is covered. The design and operation of steam, hot water and glycol coils in buildings are covered. Students will be introduced to the psychrometric chart and calculations for comfort conditions are performed. Finally, a quick review of HVAC controls for air conditioning is taught.
