This course continues introducing students to the current state of driveline and transmission technologies from the point of view of an engineering technologist involved in vehicle development: research, engineering, design, and testing. While emphasis is placed on system design including powertrain integration and sizing for energy efficiency and acceleration performance of internal combustion engine and electric powertrain passenger car and light truck applications, the course ventures into technology migrations. Hence, the references made and the principles taught are applicable to commercial highway and off-highway vehicles and machinery, motorcycles, and other mechanical engineering technology applications. The system engineering approach to design, which is used in this course, is applicable to all areas of mechanical engineering technology and other disciplines.
