Statics And Strength Of Materials | St. Clair College
Course Code
MET2010
Course Credit
5

This course is designed to familiarize the student with the different types of forces acting on a system which is in equilibrium. The student learns to analyze any system with the help of free body diagrams and then determine the magnitude and direction of various external and internal forces. The general topics include:, two dimensional force systems in equilibrium; Structures and members; friction; centroids of lines and areas; moment of inertia; tensile, compressive and shear stresses in materials; effect of application of torque; and bending in beams due to applied forces. These topics will be explored through classroom lectures and appropriate lab experiments. Group assignments and problem solving sessions will also be marked towards the final grade. Technical reports are required for all lab activities.
