This course is the last of nine courses that prepare the student to challenge the Gas Technician II exam as administered by Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). This course will prepare the student to select, plan, install, maintain and service domestic hot water heaters. The student will interpret and apply applicable regulations including plumbing code for the safe, proper and efficient installation of hot water heaters, combination heating systems and hydronic boilers. The student will interpret manufacturer's specifications, drawings, electrical schematics, piping layouts and other appropriate information to plan and install commercial hot water storage systems less than 400000 Btu's per hour. An introduction to residential gas fired hydronic (hot water) heating boilers will allow the student to select proper size and install a hydronic gas fired boiler and associated heating components. It is recognized that the heating system layout should be performed by a qualified plumber or steamfitter. The student will use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot hydronic heating systems and pool heaters and repair or replace defective components. Finally, the student will analyze system integrity and ensure that the hydronic heating system is working according to manufacturer's specifications and in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
