An introduction to the fabric industry and the main components of textiles: fibre, yarn, fabric, construction, colour application and fabric finishes. A focus on natural and manufactured fabrics will be explored and analyzed using burn and chemical tests. Students will learn the process of how to choose the appropriate fabric for the target market and end use. Students will explore 3D printing methods and the influence of the eco-friendly movement on textiles will be reviewed along with industry laws and regulations pertaining to labeling and care instructions.
