A comprehensive introduction to the understanding of crime in Canada. This course will examine the organization and structure of the Canadian criminal justice system. Crime data and measurement patterns will be used to analyze causes and social explanations of criminal behaviour. Crime causation will be evaluated using an in-depth analysis of criminological and sociological theory and research. Contemporary issues in criminology including youth crime, various crime typologies and the role of the victim will also be examined.
