Men's Volleyball Headed to Playoffs

(Windsor, Ontario) - The St. Clair College men’s volleyball team wrapped up their OCAA regular season schedule with a solid 3-1 win over the Cambrian College Golden Shield on Sunday afternoon at the Sportsplex.

Set scores for the Saints were 25-21, 25-19, 15-25 and 25-17.

Frankie Friesen (Staples; Tilbury District) led the way offensively with 16 kills, 2 service aces and 7 digs. Shane Way (Belle River, St. Joseph’s) had a great game as well with 10 kills, 1 stuff block and 17 digs. Michael Knight (LaSalle; Sandwich Secondary) had a great game as well with 35 assists, 4 kills, 2 service aces, 1 stuff block and 7 digs. The Saints honoured their graduating seniors, Knight, Zach Draper (London, Saunders Secondary) and Ryan Acott (Windsor; Kennedy Collegiate) prior to the match.

With the win St. Clair end their regular season with a record of 5-13 while Cambrian dropped to 1-17. The 8th place Saints have advanced to the OCAA Playoffs and will travel to Barrie on Saturday, February 16 to take on the 1st place Georgian Grizzlies. The winner will advance to the OCAA Championship in Toronto from February 21st to 23rd.

Women's Volleyball End Regular Season 15-3

(Windsor, Ontario) - The St. Clair College women’s volleyball team wrapped up their OCAA regular season schedule with a well played 3-0 win over the Cambrian College Golden Shield on Sunday afternoon at the Sportsplex.

Set scores for the Saints were 25-14, 25-12 and 25-15.

Te-Anna Stephenson (Whitby; Sinclair Secondary) led the way offensively with 13 kills, 3 service aces and 7 digs. Andie Suthers (Tecumseh; Belle River District) had a great game as well with 7 kills on 10 attempts and 1 stuff block. The Saints honoured their graduating seniors, Suthers, Jessica Masse (Cottam; Essex District) and Julie Ann Milling (Woodstock; Woodstock Collegiate) prior to the match.

With the win the Saints end their regular season with a record of 15-3 on the season while Cambrian dropped to 4-14. St. Clair is ranked 2nd in Ontario and 12th in Canada. The 2nd place Saints will host a playoff game on Saturday, February 16th at 3 pm at the Sportsplex against the 6th place team from the East Division. The winner will advance to the OCAA Championship in Sudbury from February 22nd to 24th.

St. Clair College Men’s Basketball Drill Fanshawe at Home

(Windsor, Ontario) - The St. Clair College Men’s Basketball team came out firing Friday night and in front of a raucous SportsPlex home crowd beat Fanshawe College (London) by a score of 86-75. The Saints now own an 8-10 record in the OCAA’s West Division and are inching closer to the playoffs.

St. Clair was up 21-5 before Fanshawe had a chance to breath and the Saints led 25-13 after the first quarter. Extending their lead to 46-25 by halftime St. Clair had already made 7 triples with David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, MI) leading the charge with 18 points by the intermission. Another solid quarter in the third allowed the Saints to go up by as much as 30 points and they cruised to the victory down the stretch. Pushing the ball with ease in transition St. Clair scored 29 points off 22 Fanshawe turnovers.

Gomez finished with a game high 27 points while adding 9 assists for St. Clair. Jalen Sykes (Redford, MI) potted 14 points to go with 9 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots while Nik Veigli (Cottam, ON/Essex District) chipped in with 12 for the Saints.
