St. Clair College Rookie Cross Country Runner Carter Free has been named both the OCAA and CCAA Athlete of the Week.

The Saints Athlete of the week earned both the provincial and national accolades due to his opening performance at the St. Clair Invitational Meet this past weekend when he bested the field of 79 runners from across Ontario.  The Saints Men’s team also took the top spot on the podium.  The pride of Napanee, Ont. ran away from the competition in a time of 25:42 over the very difficult 8km course at Windsor’s Malden Park and was nearly 38 seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher.

The first year Protection, Security and Investigation student comes with a great resume having competed for Canada at the U20 Pan American Games in San José, Costa Rica this past July where he earned a Silver Medal running a time of 3:48 in the 1,500 meter race.

Free and the rest of the St. Clair Cross Country team will next be in action against primarily Ontario universities on Sep. 21st at the Bill Salter Western International Invitational being held at Thames Valley Golf Course in London.

St. Clair will play host to the OCAA Provincial Championships Oct. 26th at Malden Park.
