This course provides an introduction to the study of how social situations influence human behaviour, beliefs, and decision-making. Classic studies in Social Psychology will be discussed, along with recent findings in order to understand the major concepts and theories, and students will relate these concepts to experiences in their own lives. Contemporary and relevant issues will be explored, including: advertising, compliance techniques, and other influences on our attitudes and behaviour; prejudice and discrimination; causes of aggressive/violent behaviour; peer pressure; and obedience to perceived authority.
