This course provides an integrated overview of the psychology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology associated with managing the pain, fear, and anxiety that clients receiving dental hygiene care may experience. Local anesthesia is a primary focus including basic principles and knowledge necessary to administer local anesthesia for pain management. Other topics include the neurophysiology of pain; the pharmacology of local anesthetics and vasoconstrictors; anatomical considerations; local and systemic complications; and client assessment and management techniques.
