Empower, evolve, and innovate.
That was the theme of the second annual Rise Above Health Conference hosted at the main South Campus of St. Clair College on Sept. 28, 2024.
Hundreds of educators, students, healthcare industry professionals and future health leaders gathered at the Student Life Centre for the one-day conference, to discuss various important topics related to the future of healthcare delivery in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.
The event was put on by the Schools of Health Sciences and Nursing at the College.
"Our Team is so excited to offer this day of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and spending this day together," said Monica Staley Liang, the College's Senior Vice President of Academic and Career Supports. "It is very important to all of us here at St. Clair College to work together to offer our students the best academic experience, and you are all instrumental in supporting our Mission."
One of the key takeaways from the conference was the emphasis on empowering individuals at every level-students, professionals, and educators alike. Through knowledge sharing, networking, or learning new strategies, attendees walked away with a renewed sense of purpose and direction in their respective roles.
The discussions also explored how health professionals can continue evolving in their careers to stay ahead of the ever-changing healthcare system demands.
A series of keynote speeches and breakout sessions took place after the main program at the Anthony P. Toldo Centre for Applied Health Sciences, centered around innovations in technology and patient care. Topics ranged from artificial intelligence in healthcare, to evolving patient-centered care models, to the importance of mental health support for both patients and healthcare workers.
Industry professionals shared their insights on the future of healthcare, providing practical strategies for adapting to advancements while maintaining human-centered approaches to care.
"This conference is more than just an opportunity to learn. It's a space where our students, faculty, and local healthcare professionals can unite to empower each other, evolve through shared knowledge, and innovate solutions that will shape the future of healthcare," said Dr. Stephanie DeFranceschi, Chair of the School of Health Sciences at St. Clair College. "For St. Clair, it's a reflection of our commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships with the community and to prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders for the challenges ahead."
The Rise Above Health Conference also highlighted St. Clair College's role in the broader healthcare ecosystem. By hosting such events, the College strengthens ties with industry leaders, ensuring that its students are prepared for their careers and actively shaping the field's future.
Local healthcare organizations also benefit from access to the latest educational resources, research, and innovative practices discussed at the conference.
