With the cost of groceries on the rise, members of the College's Community and Justice Services (CJS) Club hosted a Fall Harvest Day to give fellow students' pocketbooks a break.
Hosted in partnership with the LaSalle Police Service, the CJS Club set up a booth in the front lobby of the St. Clair College Centre for the Arts on Oct. 18, providing fresh fruit to students at the downtown campuses.
A fresh supply of apples, oranges, pears, and bananas were available for free to students.
"It is really important for the CJS Club to be able to contribute to the community, but also to support students," said CJS Club member, Kellara Hanoosh.
Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of local orchards and stores, students could take as much fruit as they needed, and many were seen filling bags to bring home for later.
"The event really brought out the spirit of teamwork and fun, with tons fresh produce and the community vibe. I am proud to be part of this event," said CJS Club Vice-President Chelsea Crosby.
The CJS Club is comprised of students from the Community & Justice Services Program and the Border Services Program. The goal of the CJS Club is to engage students and bridge the gap between them and the community to offer support to those who need it most, using our platform as a foundation for change. Whether through organizing events or participating in other events in the region, their mission is to lend a helping hand.
"This is amazing. Fruit is expensive and now I can save some money this week and still eat healthy," remarked one student.
"I need this right now and I can share with my family," said another, clearly appreciate of the efforts by the CSJ Club.
The club would like to offer a special thank you to the generous donations made by local orchards and stores.
