Pow Wow May 9-11

Experience the rich tapestry of Indigenous culture at Windsor's 3rd Annual Alumni and Student Pow Wow, proudly presented by the St. Clair College's Indigenous Student Services and Aboriginal Education Centre at the University of Windsor. This vibrant event promises a day filled with traditional music, dance, and a shared spirit of celebration.

Event Details:

Day 1

  • May 9, 2024 – Contemporary Indigenous music featuring Sebastian Gaskin
  • Time: 7:00pm to 9:30pm
  • Location: Student Life Centre, St. Clair College Windsor Campus (2000 Talbot Rd, Windsor, ON N9G 2E4)

Day 2

  • May 10, 2024 – Traditional Pow Wow
  • Time: 6:00pm to 7:30pm
  • Location: Sportsplex, St. Clair College Windsor Campus (2000 Talbot Rd, Windsor, ON N9G 2E4)

Day 3

  • May 11, 2024 – Traditional Pow Wow
  • Time: 12pm-4pm followed by a community feast
  • Location: Sportsplex, St. Clair College Windsor Campus (2000 Talbot Rd, Windsor, ON N9G 2E4)

Event Highlights:

  • Live performances by the renowned Little Creek and Eagleflight Singers
  • A colorful display of traditional dances and ceremonial regalia
  • The unique aroma of sweet grass that sets a reverent and festive mood
  • Educational workshops and storytelling sessions
  • A marketplace featuring Indigenous arts, crafts, and cuisine
  • Honorariums provided for Guest Drums and Dancers in full regalia at each session

On May 10th, 2024, starting with a Sunrise Ceremony, over 1,000 students from Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent will experience an educational Pow Wow at the St. Clair College's Sportsplex.

The Pow Wow is a family-friendly event that offers a unique opportunity for all attendees to deepen their understanding of Indigenous peoples' history, culture, and contributions. It is a day to honor traditions, forge new friendships, and celebrate the diversity that strengthens our community.
