Staff and faculty from the MediaPlex and the team from Student Services were honoured this week with Employee Excellence Awards for their dedication and commitment to their crafts.
The entire Student Services department, managed by Art Barron, received the Team Excellence award during a luncheon for Staff Appreciation Day 2022.
“The pandemic has added a level of stress to students and it’s this team that students come to when it’s too much for them to bear,” the selection committee said. “These professionals have helped our students during these very stressful times to be successful and thrive.”
The College employees were nominated by their peers.
Jimmy Parsons, Chair of the School of Media, Art and Design, received the Administrator Excellence Award for his leadership in the school that hosts programs such as Journalism and Graphic Design.
Parsons was described as a leader whose dedication to his team and the school are unmatched. Those who nominated him described him as someone who “possesses undeniable talent in management and fosters positive relationships.”
Veronique Mandal, co-ordinator of the Journalism program, won the Faculty Excellence Award for the passion she has shown her students, the College, and her program.
“As a coworker and coordinator, (Veronique) has always given 110 per cent of her efforts toward creating a professional, caring environment for students and coworkers alike. From the beginning she has been able to rally the team to come up with new ideas for programs, curriculum changes, find community partners, grant writers, and the like to make the program a success,” the selection committee said.
Larry Forsyth, a technologist in the MediaPlex, received the Support Staff Excellence Award for always going above and beyond the call of duty.
“This individual has been a ‘behind the scenes’ person in the truest sense of the words,” the selection committee said. “During this past year of COVID, they have stepped up to be an extra resource to the College, sharing his insights, experience, and talents.”
