St. Clair’s Enactus team members won two first place awards and a second in the recent Enactus Regional Exposition, a virtual event with more than 66 teams from other Canadian colleges and universities.
Two projects, InterACT and Endure, placed first in the Enactus Canada Regional CWB Financial Education Challenge.
Project InterACT is an online platform that provides students with the skills and resources to achieve financial stability. This initiative prepares students with job interview experience, job opportunities, and works to teach them basic financial skills through a mobile app and website that was developed by a team in the Mobile Application Development program.
Endure is a mentorship program tailored to individuals with developmental disabilities to encourage independence and apply focused skills towards their fulfilled livelihoods. Students in the Community Integration through Cooperative Education program at St Clair went through a series of focus groups, modules, and guest speakers to prepare them for life after graduation. This program teaches them topics such as finance, and self-advocacy.
Trevor Ramieri, a student in the Landscape-Horticulture program, also received second place in the Enactus Canada Regional TD Entrepreneurship Project Idea Pitch Competition. Ramieri competed against 54 students from across Canada to land a spot in the final round of competition, where he pitched his business model to a panel of judges.
The entire Enactus St. Clair team also placed first in the People’s Choice for Central Canada, where individuals had a chance to vote for their favourite team during the competition.
Enactus St. Clair thanked its partners for the success of the team through their investment of people, time, and funding. They are: the Student Representative Council, Alumni Association, Community Integration through Cooperative Education program, Genesis Entrepreneurship Centre, WECDSB, and Libro Credit Union. The team also recognized Peter Nikita, Darren Takaki, Cai Filiault, and Nick Sylvestre for their involvement in the development of the InterACT mobile application, and faculty advisors Michael Spadotto, Teodora Milovanovic, and Jim Marsh for their continued direction and support.
“Our students have spent countless hours working on their projects and presentations and we would like to recognize them for their hard work throughout the year. A huge thank you to the entire Enactus St. Clair team, this wouldn’t have been possible without you," Spadotto said.
Avery King, president of Enactus St. Clair said the team was not deterred by having to work strictly online.
"I am so unbelievably proud of what we have accomplished this year," she said. "We grew each one of our projects to help better the lives of the people around us. Thank you to everyone involved in the projects and to anyone who has supported us along the way. It is because of the support of our team, campus, partners, and faculty that we are able to make a difference in our community.”
