Students will explore the genesis of race as an idea and how the concept has evolved over time. they will discuss the ways in which race has been used to justify unfair practices in North American history as well as forms of discrimination which persist today. Students will learn about a variety of social movements designed to address racism and its impacts and will evaluate contemporary anti-racism approaches. Students will practice recognizing implicit bias in themselves and discuss how to combat racism in daily life.
