This course introduces students to selected aspects of Spanish and Latin American cultures. Through analysis of specific films and selecting readings, the broader cultural themes and historical contexts of the cultures are examined. Emphasis is placed on the legacy of the great indigenous civilizations of the Americas before the influence of Spanish conquerors. Exploration of language, culture, art, cuisine, and trade agreements will be an important component of the course. By the end of the course, students will recognize historical cross-cultural issues and compare those issues to current cultural issues in Canada. This class will be conducted in English.
