This course will assist refreshing Registered Practical Nurses prepare for re-entry to practice. Through theoretical review and various simulated scenarios, students will demonstrate problem solving, critical thinking, therapeutic communication, and cultural sensitivity in the safe care of clients across the lifespan. Students will assess and collaboratively plan care for clients with predictable outcomes using the nursing process, integrating mental health strategies and best practice knowledge. Pharmacological concepts will be reviewed along with legal and ethical considerations affecting clients and their families. Students will utilize the practice standards outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario, and demonstrate accountability, leadership, professional and ethical conduct within their scope of practice.
