Students are introduced to the principles and techniques employed in respiratory therapy when providing care for the neonatal and pediatric patient. Students compare anatomy and physiology of the neonatal and pediatric patient to adults. Evaluation of the newborn and pediatric patient is discussed and compared to that of an adult patient. Pathophysiology of a variety of diseases relative to this patient group is discussed in terms of etiology, differential diagnosis, clinical manifestations, laboratory findings, management, prognosis and prevention. There is a mandatory lab component that supports the application of theoretical knowledge and skills demonstration in simulated clinical scenarios.
