Applied Mechanical Ventilation - Theory | St. Clair College
Course Code
RES303
Course Credit
4

Students compare the physiological aspects of mechanical ventilation in normal and pathological states. Students relate patient status such as pulmonary compliance, airway resistance, and pathophysiology to mechanical ventilation. Issues of patient safety are integrated into ventilation protocols. Emphasis is placed on the effects of lung characteristics on mechanical ventilation and how to take corrective measures. Students use case formats to integrate the application of mechanical ventilation in a therapeutic plan. Students review the protocols to initiate, maintain, and discontinue mechanical ventilation. Students compare the various ventilation techniques in relationship to patient management.
