This course introduces students to therapeutic communication techniques. Through lectures, discussions, and audio/visual materials, students explore communication skills used to interact with patients, families, community members, and other health care personnel. Areas studied include therapeutic approaches to communication, stress/anxiety, perception of self and others, crisis management, as well as death and dying. Health care issues such as professionalism, ethics, and involvement in community health are also examined.
