This course is designed to familiarize the student with heat engines, prime movers, steam turbines, cooling towers, gas turbines, gasoline and diesel engines. Studies include theoretical and practical applications, the principles of operation, equipment construction and the components to ensure safe and efficient operation. Types of pumps and principle of operation is covered. Air compressors and lubrication principles are taught emphasizing both on theoretical as well as practical operation. Finally, the course covers the types of plants found in the power engineering field such as hot oil systems, gas plants, pulp and paper mills, refineries, sawmills and food processing plants.
