A study of the compression and refrigeration systems, components and auxiliaries with an emphasis on their principles of operation, theoretical concepts, and their application. Other topics include system layouts, maintenance, capacity and efficiency calculations, controls and safety devices, and lubrication requirements. Special industrial plant layouts are covered and the specialized operation of these plants is emphasized. Heat exchanger and cooling tower system configurations, operation and controls are discussed. Application of thermodynamic concepts to problems related to compressors and refrigeration systems will be included as well. This course will also study the applicable regulations to the refrigeration and compression systems.
