This course explains basic concepts used in the production of electricity, namely design and characteristics of DC generators and motors. An introduction into AC sine wave generation, AC systems and switchgear, AC generators, as well as AC 3-phase motors and transformers. Emphasis are on safety around electrical systems and equipment. Calculations involving DC and AC power circuits are also performed. The purpose, design, operation and components of pneumatic, electronic and digital control loops, and control modes and strategies will be examined to offer knowledge related to digital control systems applicable to power plants.
