Hands-on study of introductory level operation, maintenance and testing activities encountered in a power plant. Equipment includes boilers and auxiliaries, prime movers, heat engines, compressors, pumps, and refrigeration. Commercial building systems including air handling, steam/hot water heating, and plumbing systems are demonstrated as well as cold and hot water distribution, and basic electrical wiring are covered with practical projects in the lab. Other aspects include piping & instrument drawing (P&IDs) applications, safety and administrative functions related to running a power plant at the 4th class level. CSA and ASME codes as well as other relevant legislation to Power Engineering are referenced and adhered to.
