In this course the student will examine essential elements of community-based nursing. The student will explore community assessment, planning, and intervention to promote health and prevent illness/injury in community practice settings. The student will learn to use selected assessment tools and to evaluate client outcomes. The course will address family, cultural, and ethical issues. The student will develop nursing competencies required to give quality care in the community. The student will focus on therapeutic communication with clients and the health team to ensure continuity of care and provide teaching to individuals/groups based on health needs assessment., The student will learn how to consult with other professionals and to act as an advocate for clients/families.
