This advanced course will allow the learner an opportunity to view the new partnerships between Public Services and the communities they serve. The first section of the course the learner will be made aware of the various social service agencies that exist in the community and how those agencies address the special needs of persons residing in the community. The learner will become involved with some of these agencies and will be made aware of the advantages of these partnerships as well as their limitations. The second section of the course and after a brief overview historically of various policing models, the learner will be asked to examine and apply crime prevention and problem oriented policing strategies currently being used in Canadian Policing. By using information to understand problem oriented policing and then examine various models and strategies, such as CPTED, to develop, implement and evaluate solutions to problems, thus gaining a larger understanding of the role and that the community plays in today's policing environment.
