This course is a study of the basic electrical and electronic principles and systems used on light duty transportation vehicles. Problem solving strategies involving electrical forces will be stressed as simple, series, parallel, series-parallel and parallel series circuits are commonplace in everyday applications of on/off road vehicles. Use of diagnostic electrical test equipment is a major component of this course. An in- depth study of batteries, including new technology, magnetism and the applications to vehicles used in the transportation field is included. Both DC and AC circuits as well as analogue and digital amplitudes is integral to the understanding of how electrical/electronic systems function in everyday use relating to the transportation design and repair field. Fuel chemistry and fuel applications is included. Fuel delivery methods and the results of the combustive process as well as the control of the gases produced is discussed in detail. An introduction to diesel fuel systems is also included.
