This course is designed to introduce the learner to the field of manufacturing facilities design, incorporating material handling. Since both profoundly affect the productivity and profitability of a company, a strong understanding of their relationship is necessary. Site location, space requirements, storage and warehousing, plant/office layout, flow analysis techniques and industrial safety are just a few topics covered during the course. Material handling equipment ranging from hand carts to automatic guided vehicles, and pallet storage rack to automatic storage/retrieval systems will be explored along with their effects on a layout.
