Use gages such as micrometers, vernier calipers and dial gages, etc. successfully and analyse the data. The student will be familiar with the terminologies and language of Metrology such as tolerance, repeatability, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Calibration of each measuring device will be analysed theoretically and in the lab. Different geometries, sizes, and surfaces are analysed in the lab. The student will also be learning and working on pneumatic measuring system, optical measurements, and also non-destructive testing methods such as x-rays, ultrasonics and liquid penetrants. Coordinate Measuring Machines are used extensively in order to measure the geometrics of a work piece to an engineering drawing. Emphasis will be placed on precision and error assessments.
