A study of the physiology, analysis, and diagnostic significance of non-protein nitrogenous compounds, electrolytes and gases in biological fluids, and the evaluation of gastrointestinal, liver, cardiovascular, and kidney function. Various types of ligand assays, toxicology, therapeutic drug monitoring, and diagnostic tests on body fluids other than blood will also be covered. Students will visit a clinical laboratory to observe the operation and maintenance of more sophisticated instrumentation, and will participate in case studies and core lab exercises.
