Chinese phonetics is the core of this course. It is designed for students with no or very little exposure to Modern Standard (Mandarin) Chinese. The students will learn the phonetic script system for Mandarin Chinese and use simple phrases in social and survival contexts. The basic structure of Chinese characters will be introduced.
