This introductory course will take a retrospective look at past civilizations and societies in relation to their advancements and contributions to human history. Students will learn about the political, social, and technological changes which occurred from the Ancient Egyptian period up to and including the Post-Industrial Revolution. Particular emphasis will be placed on understanding how certain socio-economic conditions impacted on the quality of life for persons living during these periods in terms of urban infrastructure and domestic shelter. Each period will be examined for its contribution towards the advancement of humankind.
