This course is designed to introduce to the basic level apprentice, the concepts of tensile strength, malleability, hardness, elasticity and strength of Materials; knowledge of the effects of allowing elements in steel and their overall impact on the appropriate uses of the final product; knowledge of the appropriate use age of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, basic heat treatment procedures, and knowledge and applications of fasteners; knowledge of types, properties and applications of lubricants and the effect of flash and fire point as well as the viscosity index and how it is used; knowledge of correct applications for grease and oils in industrial applications.
