Establishing a foundation of the knowledge of wines, beers, spirits and other beverages is important to being a well-rounded hospitality professional, particularly being an effective food and beverage server, bartender or manager. This course will present the student with an overview on the production and ingredients, history and origin, uses, brand names and types, and trends of these beverages. The student will complete the Smart Serve Certification and, as part of this, investigate the role and impact of alcohol legislation, licensing, and compliance. As well, students will explore the characteristics of efficient, controlled, and profitable bar operations.
