This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of alternating current (AC) electricity. It builds upon material from the direct current fundamentals course. Theory and analysis methods of single and balanced three-phase AC circuits will be applied both in the classroom and the laboratory setting. Topics include magnetism, the generation of AC voltages, reactance, impedance, AC power, and phasor representations of AC parameters., Also covered are series and parallel connected circuits that include a combination of resistive (R), inductive (L) and/or capacitive (C) elements. In the lab, students will enhance their ability to use measurement instruments to measure circuit parameters and will use a function generator.
