In this course, electronic engineering students will study the means by which industrial systems are controlled via programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Students will study the software from two of the major PLC manufacturers: Allen Bradley and Siemens. Students will study the elements that make up an entire industrial automated system. The basic concepts of motion and process control will be explored as well as advanced programming techniques and fault detection. Students will be given various processes to be programmed as well as conversion between the three different programming languages. This course will also provide students with a fundamental understanding of how programmable logic controllers transfer data via communication networks.
