This course provides an introduction to child development by exploring the principle theories and research findings in the areas of cognitive, physical/ motor/ social/ emotional, and moral development of children from the prenatal period to middle childhood. Students will gain an appreciation of the exceptional child with respect to the normal patterns of childhood development. The key issues of family dynamics, diversity, change and growth, influences of nature and nurture, and the implications for learning will be addressed.
