This course introduces the student to the fundamentals of the Canadian business system. Students develop an understanding of the basic practices of business and business concepts for establishing and operating a successful small business in their chosen health care field. It will also focus on aspects of dental or dental hygiene practice related to dental reception, dental insurance and billing, as well as practice management standards of CDHO. Students will be exposed to the responsibilities and realities of operating an independent dental hygiene practice, such as financial and employer responsibilities. The relevance of operating policies, documentation management, and health and safety will be considered, in relation to the dental hygienist as an employer.
