The theory component of this course will emphasize the classification and etiology of malocclusion, basic principles of tooth movement, diagnostic record assembly for orthodontic clients, and different types of orthodontic treatment modalities. The practical component of this course will provide the student with an opportunity to practise placing separators, bonding and removing orthodontic brackets, cementing and removing orthodontic bands, and placing and removing archwires in a preclinical setting. Observation of a dental hygienist in an orthodontic practice is also included.
