This course is designed to familiarize the student with the characteristics, rehabilitation, and management of clients with special needs, with emphasis on gender and age related health issues. The student will apply previous knowledge of preventive dentistry and dental health education to assess clients' needs and improve the delivery of dental care given by the dental health care professional. The student will have an opportunity, to apply theoretical skills by providing dental hygiene care for persons with special needs in long term care facilities and persons who have barriers that limit access to dental hygiene care.
