Clinical Theory III

This couse is delivered as a theory hour and a seminar hour each week. The focus of the theory hour is practicing professionally and practice management skills. The National Dental Hygiene Certification Board Exam and registration with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario are discussed. Career planning and financial planning options are reviewed. Mechanisms for continuing education, quality assurance, and accountability in practice are outlined. Weekly seminars in small groups provide a forum for each student to present a clinical care plan, to discuss their clinical progress and to conduct chart audits. Also in seminar, students prepare a Clinical Practice Manual, outlining protocols for infection control, medical emergencies, radiography safety, management of hazardous wastes and quality assurance.
