This course will provide a framework and understanding of drug actions, their dental and medical uses and implications to the dental patient management. Students will be provided with an overview on how the body handles drugs (pharmacokinetics); how drugs interact with biological systems (pharmacodynamic) and factors influencing their clinical performance (pharmacotherapeutics). Students will be shown how to access drug information and clinically apply the information obtained. Topics presented include the development of drugs, principles of drug action, and mechanisms of action, clinical uses, and dental implications of various drug classes.
