The embryology portion of this course covers gametogenesis and fertilization; cleavage and implantation; formation of the bilaminar germ disc; establishment of body form; fetal membrance and placenta; and orofacial development. A histological background is provided for the development of bone, cartilage, teeth, oral mucosa, and salivary glands. Microscopic morphology of oral tissues is examined in laboratory sessions.
