To introduce students to microorganisms, particularly bacteria and viruses, starting with general characteristics of morphology and growth, then dealing with modes of transmission, and relationship to disease of pathogenic microorganisms, especially those relevant to students of dental hygiene. An introductory unit on oral microbes is included. Concepts of sampling, transmission, identification, and control are explored in laboratory sessions.
